would heater hose like what is sold at discount, pepboys, etc work for this application? the guy at the store says that it will hold up to 180 degF and would work for oil.

The question is would the oil from the turbo exceed the 180?

Anyhow, know of what I could used from discout, pepboys, etc for a drain tube?

The heater hose will work but it won't last too long before it breaks apart.

Just spend a little money on the -10AN braided hose.

If you need I still have some left from my build.

Let me know

 

silicon hose is 6-8 dollars a foot. buy some.

 

Oil destroys silicone hose.

 

i thought silcine hose was impervious too almost all automotive chemicals

There are some types of silicon that don't deal with oil but readily avalible automotive silicone hose is manufactured with flourine to resist oils, solvents and hydrocarbons. And its fire resistant. And from personal experiance I have used it on probably 6 cars I have boosted and none have had problems with it.

 

I've always used some type of "rubber" hose from a hydraulic store, that's made for high temp oil. A buddy used heater hose once, and it just swells up starts leaking everywhere and goes to hell.

 

i would use s.s braided line but if you cant then i would get the hydrulic line like stated above

 

what i did and its worked for over 2 years on 2 cars.

go to home depot,go to the hot water heater section.find the hot water heater ss hoses.they are solid stainless steel and are crinked so when you bend them they form just how you want them too.they cost about $7.

go home and cut it in half,remove the nut it comes with ,this leaves a lip.then take your flange that goes on the turbo and bore it out so the flange barely slides over the new ss hose.it will catch on the lip,then bolt it to the turbo making it seal.it will crush the lip and make it seal perfect.then you can grab the other end and bend it to your likings.works great and is cheap.

for the actual return i use a peice of 3/4 inch galvanized pipe,cut it off to my likings and weld it to the pan.once welded i drill the hole to match.then use a small piece of hose to secure the new hose to the pan.total cost $10-$11

 

sorry for the huge pic but i wanted you to see the detail of what i used.
if you cut it in half,then remove the nut and the plastic washer they have on there,it leaves you that little lip.then bore out your turbo flange so it slides through and catches on that lip.then sandwitch that lip between the flange and the turbo making a tight seal.

 

:up: how did you connect the hose to the pan again?

ya never use rubber hose, oil makes it burst.

He used a rubber hose to connect the hot water thing to a bung.

 

I've been running the heater hose drain tube setup from the stock greddy kit for over a year, and I bought the kit used so technically it's been used for 3 years, no problems.

Sweet!!! Geesh that's looks like a good idea. I went 3 auto parts store today. They had nothing that would "work" for one reason or another. I'll definately check ur idea out.

civictypenos Do you have any pics of it installed, curious how it wil clamp on to the oil pan fitting and what kind of fitting do you have welded to your pan??

 

if it don't leak... and oil won't corrode it.. should work right.

i just bought a 4 inch section of 3/4 inch galvanized pipe,cut it at a slight angle,with a about 1-1/2 sticking out,then positioned it on the pan sticking up.welded it on.then used a 2 inch section of hose to clamp it to the ss heater hose i had bought.the ss hose and pipe are metal to metal and the hose is such a tight fit,i doubt it will ever have a problem.i sold one car with tis on it and the other one is a buddys.ill try to get a pic soon.
