How to build a quiet exhaust?
As much as I like the looks and sound of the Greddy EVO2, I've decided its way too loud for my taste. So, the EVO2 goes out .. I am thinking of a 2.5" custom b-pipe with one or maybe even two resonators to keep the notes down and a T1R axle back (if I can find one !!).. Would this make for a quiet, yet high-performance exhaust for the R ?? I know the T1R can is really not very quiet but I'm hoping the resonated b-pipe will compensate for the T1R.. How much would the resonators hurt the performance level of the b-pipe ??
What other b-pipe, axle-back combinations are good that keep the decibels down ??
BTW, the EVO2 is about 3 months old and going to be sold for around $375 plus shipping if anyone is interested
Here's the info on the Greddy..

Hmmm....but if he thinks a greddy evo2 is loud, then I think nothing short of mugen or hytech will be able to meet your standards. To me it ain't loud unless I need earplugs.
I've seen how drastically a pair of resonators can bring down the decibels on a friend's STi with 3" exhaust so I'm thinking of going the same way .. As for the axle-back, I want something nice-looking that performs which is why I'm thinking the T1R ..
I thought of welding in the resonators on the EVO2 but I think that would be cannibalistic
The EVO2 b-pipe is really too nice to cut

just get 1 hytech twinloop can. 1 b-pipe with two inline resonators, and 1 renault cat. 2.5" ID on all of the above and it's quiet as stock.

try looking at the magnaflow exhausts... i personally bought one for my itr motor.. model 14850 in the race series..

its the fourth exhaust.. it sounds nice and deep.. the onli thing is that the inlet is 2.25. u need to cut it and weld the custom 2.5 exhaust piping to it. the inside part of the exhaust is alreadi 2.5 so its perfect. 4" outlet.

Compaired to the 3" catless turboback I had on my WRX, no exhaust is loud to me anymore, but if the EVO exhaust was loud for you I don't know what to tell you. I have a Mugen twinloop on my R and am really happy with it (not a single look from a cop as I drive past). Just my opinion, but if you're planning on welding 2 resonators in addition to a quieter muffler, I'm not sure how much "performance" you will really be getting from a 2.5 inch exhaust compaired to stock. I think I would weld the stock muffler on to a 2.5" b-pipe and see how you like that before I went through the hastle and expense of paying a muffler shop to essentially make a custom dual resonated cat-back. Just my .02...
How about a turbo? My turbo with no cat and Tanabe Racing Medallion (yeah, with a silencer in place) is QUIETER than stock!

EDIT, OK stupid joking aside, I would go cost-effective and weld a half-decent muffler onto your existing pipes. You won't notice the 2 hp loss.

keep in mind, the greddy system was designed together thus it sounds good
sound may change if you start mixing and matching
btw...do you have a header and a cat?
if all else fails return to stock...

Yes I have a 4-1 JDM with a 2.5" test pipe so the EVO just gets louder .. Yesterday I pulled the EVO axle back and installed the OEM muffler with the EVO b-pipe .. the car is obviously sounding just like OEM but when I floor it, the muffler rattles a bit which makes me think it won't last too long
.. I am trying to get a hold of a friend with a Mugen TL to try that setup ..
I've heard people say the TL is not the best flowing system but if its quiet it will have to do for me
I wonder how much power is lost with a TL over an EVO ??
