Not new to the site. Been on since 02. Just an avid reader and not an avid poster.

Well here's my question. Wanted to know what is the best transmission to run on a Turbo application. The car will be driven mostly on the street but will occasionally get a trip to the track. Just wanted to get some peoples input. Setup would be bulit GSR block w/ported B16 head, EL mani with a T3/T61.

 

I know this may get locked b/c it will get into the gsr vs ls debate. But I had an ls trans in my old hatch that was stolen. My new one I have a gsr tranny. For highway driving I don't like the gsr tranny. At 80 I am at 4k rpm's. I usually drive faster then 80 on my way into work which is about 90 miles each way. My car heats up a little and rev's fairly high with the GSR tranny . I would rather have an LS 5th in my tranny. Then I would be much happier.

 

I've heard some going with GSR or B16 trans with a LS final drive. Would the size of the turbo also come into play when deciding what would be the ideal trans to use.

Anyone out there using just a straight LS trans on a big turbo setup?

 

I have an ls v-tec with a ls tranny<LSD>...I'm not gonna speak for anyone but myself...I love LS with a passion because the gearing. I guess you have to have power to push the gears...Well I know I do(almost all the fixings...Toyosupr in the process of replacing my SS autocrap EL manifold<waste of money)... I also had GSRwith LSD but switched to an LS with LSD So what ever HP your running is gonna depend on what Gearing you want and if you drive it on Freeways alot...but Have fun

 

Thanks for the info RED. I already have and will be running an LS trans on my new setup. I just wanted to get feedback on others since most people I know are running GSR and B16 trans. I guess I'll see how it will turn out.
