which 4-door to look for?
hi, i am gonna need a daily driver so i'm looking for an 88-91 civic 4 door to go with my 90 CRX Si. should i only pay attention to EX's or should i consider the lx/dx. i am doing a b16 swap basically first thing, though, so that's a main reason. plus, the EX has 4 wheel discs, right? thanks for the help.
I don't beleive that the EX has 4-wheel disk brakes. It does have the larger 10.2 inch front brakes. As far as the LX and DX, I think they are both DPFI rather than the MPFI so you would have a little more wiring to do for your swap.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

that's what i was thinking. i don't know about the brakes. i'll have to research that. as for the wiring, i think you're right. i knew that the DX didn't have MPFI, but i didn't know what the LX had. i've found 2 or 3 EX's in my area and they are around 3 grand, but i'm guessing they will be the nicest and they are easiest for the B series. if i could only find one in Rio Red, that would be cool. would go great with my CRX.
btw, the reason i need a daily driver is because when i do the ZC swap into the Rex, the ITB's i have aren't going to be really streetable. so i think a B16a powered EF 4 door would be a nice little daily-driver. plus, since i'm getting new suspension for the rex, i can throw the skunks onto the sedan. and i already have 4 sets of rims, too. heheheheee

Im an expert when it comes to EF 4 Doors..I should be i own 2(both EXs)
As far as i know they only came in 4 Colors...
Maroon, White, Light Blue, Dark Grey
EXs did not come with Rear Disks....
90-91s have the Automatic Seatbelts vs the 88-89 which have automatic seat belts
The DX & LX have the EXACT same motor(DPFI)
The difference between lx and dx is The LX has power windows, doors, mirrors and cruise control
The EX is basically an LX with a d16a6 engine with MPFI and bigger brakes(Nicer interior pattern too)
The EX will not take any wheels smaller than 14" due to the brakes...It wont take any CRX wheels they just dont fit...
Expect to pay 3-3500 for a nice EX
Any other questions? lol

Other colors- champagne and bright red,
Champange EX would be nice....Only thing i dont like about the Red ones is they have red interiors....
No, no champagne or bright red....I have a 91 EX, and bought it new. The only colors offered here were white, burgundy, light blue and grey....No rear discs.
I put a sunroof in mine when I first bought it, but would not rec. that.
If I wanted a fast 4 door I would go with dx, and wind up windows, etc. which I am sure weighs less. Mine was 2370 WITHOUT me in it before b16a. With me it is at least 2550 now, and weight is a severe issue kicking my *** at the track even taking out rear seats, front, & rear bumper support.
So far gone 13.98 @ 99.04 but cams are NOT dialed so maybe better, or else dump so more weight....

Ok, i forgot we were talking ex here. I have seen the other models in those colors though or they were resprayed.
Thanks Red Civic T for the correction.

darn. good idea about the DX. i can find those for like 1g, spend the extra 2g on a motor swap/body work, and i'd have an even nicer daily-driver for the price of a bone-stock EX.
sorry about the colors. i haven't a clue, so that's why i asked.
about the wheels, he's saying not all of the CRX wheels will fit, but i know that 14 and up should fit. i will find out, though....

I am pretty sure he is right about the CRX wheels not fitting. Most 14" wheels will fit, however, the CRX wheels do not clear the calipers on the EX. The ones you have seen may not have been an EX. They may have been the LX or DX which has smaller front brakes and will take the CRX 14" wheels.
