Crazy Sh*t Happened
This happened to me about a month ago but I just felt like telling the story now. I can't remember all of the details because it all happened so fast but I'm trying my best. It could have been death easily due to a simple loose screw, so heres the story.
I just bought my gsr (see sig) and was testing it out going through this one route through the woods thats newly paved and windy (lots of fun for spirited driving). I'm coming up this one hill redlining through 2nd then getting almost all the way through 3rd then decide to let off the gas and and shift into 4th because theres a turn coming up and I want to take the rest of the ride easy. Instead of slowing down though the car keeps accelerating.
I press pretty fimly on the brake pedal and the car isn't slowing down so I slip my foot under the gas and pull up thinking that something is possibly stuck.... still no reaction. I figure that maybe the brakes went out so I pull up on the E-Brake but to no reaction again. I downshift into third and this immediately redlines the car and the fuel keeps cutting on and off.
I make the final move of desperation and I turn the car off (going about 70mph now) and since this all happened within a few seconds I wasn't thinking totally clearly and I pulled the keys out of the ignition. I press the brakes hard and start slowing down and as I go around the turn coming up I can feel that power steering is definatley gone. I forgot one thing though.... the wheel locks up if the keys aren't in the ignition so now I'm heading across the other lane on a blind turn(nearly missing an eclipse that was luckily driving slow and could react in time) and I end up stopping in somebodys driveway. So I put the car in neutral and push it to the side of her driveway until I can come back later to figure out what the hell just happened. So i called my freind and he picked me up and dropped me back off at my high school just in time for me to take my Physics Final Exam
Nothing better than wondering what just happened to my car while trying to take a test.
After I checked the throttle cable and took off the throttle body, the problem ended up being in the butterfly. When I was going full throttle the vibrations of the engine must have unscrewed one of the two screws that holds the butterfly in place (if there was one even in there) and shifted the butterfly. As I went to let off the gas, the butterfly jammed itself up against the side of the throttle body so it was constantly on at least 50% throttle. I realligned the butterfly and put a new screw in there and the car is running fine again, but that was one of the scariest experiences in my life looking back on it. I guess the tech related part of this story is make sure your butterfly screws are tight

damn...thats wierd how that happened...but you are lucky...no once could have messed with it could they like replacing the throttle body? (aftermarket)...i dont know but hope that fixed the problem for good
The guy that had it before me said he never touched it (of course he'd say that though). Is it possible that the screw passed through my engine and is stuck in the exhaust somewhere(I'm not sure on the valve clearances) because after I got the TB problem fixed the engine would idle around 2100 because of the little hole that would let air through although it didnt do it before. That would mean that the screw was in their before so it must have gone somewhere. I put some machne screw that I found in my bin of screws that fit and just cranked it down hard.
If anybody has a real replacement butterfly screw though that would probably be much safer.... hit me up

If you want a shorter version... although it wont be as exciting (i know im quite the writer)
... you could read the second paragraph and the last and you'll get the gist of it.

I had a similar experience to that. I was driving around town when i let off the gas pedal. BUt the damn car kept accellerating. I quckly pressed the brakes too but it didnt help much. for some reason i decided to press the gas pedal all the way then let it out a couple times. Finally, the car stopped acclerating. When i got home and checked the throttle body it was filled with sticky dirt and debry. I guess over time of sucking in water and dirt from the cold air intake it deposited inside the throttle body and actually got it stuck. So i cleaned it and now it runs fine. But that **** was scary!! i could have gotten into a serious car wreck.
The moral of the story, clean the inside of throttle body and check all bolts and screws. It coud save your life.

that would've slowed the car down, however his car would've ended up bouncing off the rev limiter, which for the length of time it would take to slow the car down, and turn it off could possibly have damaged his motor.
he handled the situation very well and
to getting out of the situation in 1 piece (him, not the intake manifold, cus that sucker was in many pieces
)

You know... that didn't even occur to me until right now. Everything was just happening so quick and I was super confused so I just reacted. Like tegasaurus said, it might cause some damage, but I'm sure my downshift to roughly 10,000 rpm's hurt my motor a little.... It hasn't been able to spin em in second for as long since
.
for the B being able to take the beating though.

neutral, hit the brakes hard, and shut off but leaving key in there so you can still steer.
but glad to see you and everyhting turned out ok.
