Changed Cam seal and vetc solenoid seal, Now the R wont start
Hows it going...well after 6 montsh of waiting, we installed the R motor, got it running smoothly but was lacking power because it was untuned. everything ran fine until today, when i got it tuned. We changed the cam seal, and vtec solenoid seal because i was leaking oil so the only thing we took apart was the valve cover, and the long thing covering the top of the cam, and the vtec solenoid. Well everything went well with changing out the seals but when we hoooked it uip to the dyno, all hell broke lose. I am using hondata s100 BTW. after everything was hooked up, we attempted to turn on the car. but to no avail. it would crank, start up for about 2 seconds, then shut off abruptly. we tried again but the same thing happend. After a few attemps they disconnected there equiptment and set the ECU back to the way it was. we tried to start the car again but the same thing happened. We finally got it running once. but it sounded 10x louder and throatier, like you definately knew something was wrong.
Now the owner of the shop is stumped as well as myself. Im looking for any type of ideas on what could have possible happened. IF ANYONE CAN HELP PLEASE DO.
Thanks
phil

From what I'm reading, they removed the top camshaft spray plate and camshaft to replace the camseals. Did they put the timing belt back on properly? Sounds like a timing issue.

I agree with Len. When the motor is at TDC the intake and exhaust cam pulleys should have two arrows that line up where they meet.

i do not believe the cams were removed. It is not necessary to take the cam out to just replace the cam seal. I will have to double check because if the cam was removed that would definately explain the CEL and the problem with starting the car.
When the cam gears line up with the skunk2 emblem upright so its readable, they both align like this..................................

Unless it was slurpied out and slurpied in, either the sprockets have to be removed or the camshaft has to be removed for the camshaft seal. Not the camshaft end plug. Regardless, the timing belt had to be removed and this is where I suspect the problem.
