Default So is this injector junk?...

I bought these injectors from someone on the board and had them shipped straight to RC Eng...paid $125 to get them cleaned and balanced and today when i open the box from RC this is what i find...

Does that brown plastic piece come off or what...if not i'm going to flip out!

i dont know that much about injectors jut i have never seen an injector WITHOUT that brown part on. it think the brown part is the spray nozzle to creat the mist efect the engine needs.

From my experiances I would say no..
I carried mine to have them cleaned and the guy dropped
one breaking the pintle cap as yours is..

After going through two sets trying to find four that had similar flow
rates,I ended up using the one that had been dropped.
{I broke off the remainder of the plastic}

I have not had any problems with the performance but I am
interested in any other replies..

yah thats just a cover. as long as the little needle thing inside is not bent you're good to go.

Sweet thanks...after i posted i put the injector onto a spare manifold i had and saw that it wasn't a sealing part but now i can rest assured. I'm guessing i'll just leave it as it is? Or am i risking it breaking and getting sucked into the combustion chamber

As someone already posted, as long as the the pointy pin (pintle) that sticks out the end didn't get damaged you will be fine. It may fall off during operation. if you remove it, be careful during the injector installation.
The plastic piece is called the pintle cap and it does a couple of things depending on the injector/installation; it protects the pintle, insulates the injector tip from heat, and in some cases it is where a seal is installed.

*UPDATE*

I emailed RC about it and included a pic and they offered to replace the caps on ALL 4 injectors for FREE! Including return shipping! Man was i surprised...A++ for customer service I told them that it was most likely shipped to them like that from the seller, but they didn't care.

I had my 450's cleaned at : http://www.cruzinperformance.com/fuelinj.html

They replaced all seals, caps, and o-rings with the injector cleaning for no extra fee

Good service here!

I dropped one of my injectors and did the exact same thing. I installed it and it seems to be working just fine.

Yeah that's what RC said but if they want to replace them for free than it sounds good to me! I looked at cruzinperformance and another "injectorclininc" or something like that and i decided to go with RC because they are so well known. Prices weren't much more and like seen here their customer service is great
