Lotsa Noise from head, would adjusting the valves make it go away?
Hey all,
There is a lot of noise coming from my valvetrain. Its very annoying, and loud enough to hear while I am driving <=30 MPH even with the windows up. Would adjusting my valves make this go away? I tried once, but had a hell of a time doing it cause of the inability to get a wrench down there past the side of the head (B series motor, B16A3). I took an old 10mm wrench I had, cut it, and welded it back together at an angle, but I wasnt able to get much torque on it.

Lost motion assembly....It's for your Vtec rocker arms. Could be that. If they were ever removed and put back in without having enough oil applied to them, they can become noisy. Does it make the noise at idle? Or only when accelerating?
I had this problem once too. It was a little more serious though. My cam gear wasn't torqued properly on the camshaft and the key and the keyway were almost completely stripped. Could have ruined my engine. It made a really loud noise throughout the camshaft.
I doubt this is your problem, but thought you should know nonetheless.
Good luck!
Valve adj. is usually the first step.

o i c. The head was never taken down or anything. It makes noise at idle and when accelerating/decelerating. Its constant. That LMA thing makes me nervous. When I bought the motor, it looked like it was sitting for a long damned time. I figured it was alright to start it up since we poured the oil thru the valve cover when we changed it.
Well it sounds like you need new lost motion assemblies. I know that on B16A1's the LMA's going bad is a common problem cause they can sometimes not get enough oil, so maybe that's the same thing with your engine.
