HX vs EX
The HX motor was designed for fuel efficiency, the EX for more power. Could get into the specifics, but I think it's mostly the cam profiles and IM that cause the biggest difference in power.
Also, the HX has a much longer transmission, so while the EX will probably feel much faster, it has to do with the gearing, rather than the 12 hp.

I did it to mine.. Kills the freeway miles. I read a guy put a HX 5th gear on his EX tranny, seems like a good idea to me.
