Default Looking for guidence to get the most out of a little.. Please help

Hello to all that read this.

My name is chris and I want to get back in the honda game and im gona build a track only car for weekend fun and track sessions. I know most on here race in a a few series's and for the most part have a small-Med budget size as do I. Being a wild land fire fighter I doubt I will be able to join any series but want a car up to your guys and gals specs.

Im probably gona buy a EG hatch mabe a CRX

The ?'s

my last car 99 SI had Power steering and my biggest ? since most EG's that are not SI's have no PS. How hard is it to drive with no PS on a road coarse?

I noticed alot of racers are racing in a production type class where they are limited to the motor that is in the car SOHC's for example. I know these class's are primarely a drivers series where smoothness and momentum are key not HP. What company's make pretty good race preped motors? I know I can have a local place do it but if there is a shop that specializes in making a race reliable set ups then im all ears.

Basic homework I have done

for price and bang for the buck im planning on running there parts( all comments or beder ideas are welcomed)

Suspention-- koni yellow's, custome ground control's
Role cage--- Kirk weld in or bolt in full cage
rims--- some cheap Rota's
brakes--- prob swap over to a ITR 5 lug set up and master cylinder etc

Any help u can give me would be great and I would truely apreciate it. Please add any comments on what u like dont like or would recomend

thanks
-Chris

why bother with the full cage if its just for lapping? would a rollbar suffice?

if whatever motor your car has needs some freshening up, take care of that. if its a perfectly good motor as it sits, leave it in there.

brakes.....new rotors and some good pads from either carbotech or cobalt friction are all you should need in that department.

honestly if you arent racing, why spend the money to replicate a race car? just spend what you need to make the car trackworthy and safe

We have done this before, but here goes.

Spend money in this sequence.

1. Make your current car safe.
2. Make your current car durable (fresh brakes, high temp fluid, suspension parts not worn, etc. NOT replacement with racing stuff.)
3. Train your self to drive better, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
4. Then you will start stressing parts as you get better. Fix the issues as you go along.

By all means have an overall plan on where you plan to take this current car. TOO MANY people start fixing up "what they got" because its "what they got" and find out they are headed down a dead end path.

Just an old man's ramblings, Bling on! Yo!

currently I dont have a car just yet. I know exactly what I want to do. IM just looking into the cheapest way to do it.

Im looking at a 8K budget

I figure I can get a EG for cheap 2K for chassy or high milage etc
BRAKES
and swap GSR or ITR suspention and brakes with carbotech panther plus pads into it $1500+ master cylinder porportion valve etc

Suspention
koni yellows
ground controls $800 or so

interior
race seat $400 dollar sparco
Kirk role bar or cage $400-600

rims tires
rotas's cheap $350
Toyo Ra1's

I guess the big ? is weather to buy a car with PS or not and weather to rebuild and pump up the SOHC or get a B16 swap

Im not trying to emulate a race car just want one that is just that a car for racing so if and when I get the chance and my skills increase and get better I can enter a race without having to rebuild the whole car. I guess I should have been more specific

If you want to race eventually this is going to be a bad idea.

Buy a built racecar for what your budget is, put a muffler and passenger seat in it and go have fun in DEs

Would you be towing this car or would you be driving the car to events. Either way it's cheaper to buy something close to what you want.

Check out the classifieds on this site:
http://www.improvedtouring.com

Also keep checking the classifieds section on H-T. If you can find a car that has been autocrossed, you'll most likely get spares with it, and most often the suspension/brakes/etc. have been upgraded.

Just a suggestion.

for $8k you can buy any number of possibly competetive ITA, ITB, ITC or spec RX7 cars, or an uncompetetive ITS car, already built. A lot of times for that much money you can get an open steel trailer as part of the deal too.

Do you already have a pickup truck by any chance?
