I was wondering why so many people do b-series swaps instead of an h22 swap into their civic. Besides the extra weight the h22 seems to beat b-series in every category.
I could see why somebody would want an itr swap over h22 but they're soo damn expensive in comparison.
Is it because the h22 is harder to install or costs more to install what?
Maybe I'm just being ignorant but could someone please enlighten me.

 

I'd say H22 is harder to install and extra parts are needed for the full swap....

 

yeah i think its the parts and the weight. My buddy has an h22 in his hatch and he got ground controls with custom spring rates for it, and his car still handles weird cause of all that weight in the front... it is pretty quick tho

 

probably do to the weight differences....h22 are more of point A to point B.
and the b series swap are good for drag and auto-x....correct me if im wrong.

 

Not sure if I was misinformed or not but I read the h22 wasnt heavy enough to cause handling issues.

yeah, that solves the weight issue, but im talking the overall difficulty, price, and preformance.

I would think that the h22 would be better for drag at least cuz of a lot more torque.

 

bigger aftermarket for the B also, which is nice when people are shooting for 250whp all-motor...............John

However the h22 is MUCH easier to drive daily because of the extra torque. And I know this because I drive both.................John

 

 

i think its because of the harder install / price for install..

The b series is just so damn pretty

H22 is harder to install, parts are more expensive, and axles can be a biotch

 

It's mainly from the custom parts needed and the difficulty of the install and wiring. Plus, since it has the larger displacement, sometimes fitment issues are a problem from aftermarket accessories.

 

i think the h22 is more difficult to swap, its not a drop in motor, theres things that have to be modified for it to fit. performance wise i say h22 all the way, no replacement for displacement yo

h22a is harder to swap in = perfect for drag

b-series are easier....but perfect for autoX

for me, h22a and b16aII are around $2200...i was about to buy the h22a and put it in my 4dr, but looking at the labor and costs, i'll be spending more than i can imagine as to compared to my b16a.

i heard with h22a, all said and done, you'll be spending close to the type r motor.

 

ok....wasnt the weight matter settled? its supposedly only a 35 LB DIFFERENCE! is that REALLY significant?

heh. the one thing I hate about h-t, all of these
people who dont read or know what they are talking
about. I guess we are all guilty of it at some point.

I was wondering the same thing also. Im still looking for
a good answer, all I can come up with is that its a lot
harder to instal. I would love to see a brakedown of prices,
but im too lazy to search.

 

Stop me if I'm wrong but you cant carry over the AC with the H22 either, right? This would make the b series alittle bit more streetable.

You are damn wrong.It is easy to run. Just get HCP a/c bracket and you are pretty much done.

No, it is the other way around. Torque is better than high rpm HP for daily (street).
