I have a 93 honda civic. I have noticed an oil leak. I am not sure if it is the oil pan or the main seal but the leak is in that area. It is close enough to the transmission that it gets on it before it drips to the ground. What all does it intail to fix it and What do you think it would cost to fix it if I paid someone.

 

If it is that close to the tranny then it is probably the rear main seal. To pay someone to fix it, hmmm, Maybe 2-300? Im not sure. Thats what I would charge though.

Well, personally this is a more of a PITA than it is difficult. You have to drop the tranny just to get to it. I would get a helms for all details on the change out. I could do a write up but Id probably miss a fine detail. GL.

 

Sounds like I will pay someone. When you said 2 to 3 hundred were you counting parts or just labor. Also I is not a big leak how long before it becomes a big one.

I doubt i have the tools but thanks for the offer. Where are you located. Also mine is an automatic does that make much difference.. I read where it could be the rear main. axle seals or the oil pan.

 

Here is what I would do if you want to narrow down the problem. I would go to Pep Boys in the service dept. See if you can get the additive they put in the oil that is black light sensitive. Put that in your oil, drive it for a little bit, and get a black light and find where the leak is coming from. If you are losing oil from your engine, it IS NOT the axle seals. If you just see a leak, well then I guess it could be from there.
