Are there any how-to's to do this, Id rahter just resoder than going out to Honduh and buying a new one..

What exactly do you re-soder, and pics or diagrams are appreciated!

 

Did you like cut it out and your putting a differant one in? Ow thats some scary ****, so many wires that could be mistaken for others. But yeah if you know how to solder right (no finger twist with solder) then it should be fine.

 

I havent done anything yet, thats why I posted...

I think my main relay took a **** on me...

 

Why not just spend the $40.00-$50.00 for a new main relay from Honda?

You can resolder it, but it's pretty ghetto when the new one is already so cheap. Soldering it is like a temporary band-aid.

 

Oh, I thought it was more of a permaneant fix... Time to use the honda hookup

 

How do you replace it though, before you says get a Helms, mine is away from me..

I've got one sitting here, $25 shipped takes it, works fine. It's located under the dash right above the fuse box/where your left knee would be when driving. Held in place with a ten millimeter bolt, has 7 wires on the connector.

I hate to disagree from anything that is typed by you..

but mine has been fine for 6+ months now

its easier for me to jsut put a good used one in, they are plentiful at salvage yards and iare dirt cheap if you know where to look.

Yeah but remember your still replacing your main relay with another used main relay that could be 10+ years old (depending on car model and year).

Just pull the cover off and check for dry joints/sockets.

 

why pull it off? i got about 6 of em laying around.....and if i go to pick a part i can get a few more for less effort than popping one of em open....and you would be surprised how many near brand new ones i pulled out as well...afterall by the time a honda is ten years old teh main relay has probably failed once already.

I hate to disagree as well, but this is going to be one time.

A free fix vs 40 bills....I know which one I'd at least try first.

I second that emotion.....talk to my brother...Nuc79....he's resoldered them and they work fine....he can give ya some tips on doing it if you wanna try...

So 6 months is something to be compared to the 10+years it takes for the new main relay to foul out?

I've seen "repaired" ones last maybe a year or so, but again I'd rather buy a brand new one that will last me closer to a decade.

It's fun to tinker with **** and fix it with soldering guns, but I'll take a brand new part over a repaired or used one any day.
