ok first of all my car ran fine. startup and run ok. i just did my timing belt alignment by adjusting the distributor and using the timing gun to match the white marks on my pulley. it was advanced to around 16.

I let the car ran idle for a while and then poof!! the car died. the motor cranks and it seems to want to start. i checked if there is any sparks, but there were no spark..so i'm guessing it's the distributor. but the distributor is BRAND NEW from Distributor King!!

any ideas what else might go wrong? thanks.

You can adjust the timing of the car by moving the distributor, but you sure as hell aren't adjusting the timing belt. As for your distributor not sparking, check the wires, ignitor, plug (make sure it's not loose), etc.

If everything is copesetic it's the distributor. **** happens and it was probably a coincedence that you adjusted the timing a little before.

To check the timming you need a timing gun. Connect the timming gun to the number 1 cylinder plug wire, and shine the strobe to the crank pully. Then you can move the distributor to set the timming. On sohc's ingnition timming should be 14 degrees TDC with a +/- of 2 degrees. If this is a DOHC the timming should be set to 16 degrees TDC with a +/- of 2 degrees.

sorry my bad for the wrong terms i used. i didn't do the timing belt alignment, it was "advancing" the timing using the timing gun (~16 degrees). i've already did the TDC a while back and my car was running fine ever since.

i did exactly this....16 degrees

i thought DistributorKing is a very good and reputable distributor company. hmmm

i also found out my CEL is on whenever i turn the key 2nd notch. It stays ON even though I've used a paperclip using the CEL code test. any ideas?

 

will advancing or retarding the timing all the way cause NO spark?
