cracklingat 3000 rpms coming from exhaust.
Just installed b16a into 88 dx, everything runs good, but at about 3000 rpms i get a cracklingsound coming from the exhaust. It isn't very loud like backfiring or anything, just wondered what you thought. I am running a test pipe with a obx catback exhaust but a stock header (havent gotten the new one yet). Any ideas what that is or does anyone else get this crackling?
on acceleration or deceleration? OR not trying to start anything, are you referring to rhe rice noise it makes. iv'e heard obx before, not the greatest sounding to me. around 3000 rpm is when it will make a "rice" noise, like, "maaah". but if it is crackling, it would be from the test pipe because mine will do that on decel like, "brup brup brup brup pop pop".

LOL!!!
MAAAahhhh!
Sounds like me calling my mom!
I've heard rice exhaust that doesn't include a resonator. It sounds like big bumble-bees bouncing inside a tin can.
Like "frraat-tat-tat-frrr-tat-tat-brrrrrrrrrr-tat-tat-fraaaat"
Just like that!
could be running rich and you're getting a little backfire during shifts and decel.
???

But no it isn't at WOT-it happens at any throttle.
if it's a metal on metal type rattling check your heat shields and cat heat shields....usually the culprit for mechanical rattles

I don't mean to change the subject and all, but that sounds like what I'm getting. Of course, my exhaust is busted off after the resonator (waiting for my RS*R ExMag to get here!!!) so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, how do I tell if I'm running rich, and how would I fix it?

Is 93 octane bad or something?!?! I used to have a civic si 1999 and you need min or 91 or 90 octane in that enigine. I know you can use 87 or 89 or whatever, but that is like saying you can go 7000 miles between oil changes. It will probably still run ok, but would it hurt to change it every 3000 miles? No. So what is the problem with running 93 octane? We have 87 89 and 93. Which one would you choose Full Race A6?

Seems like a waste to me for a stock motor. I bet 91 would still be perfect.
You guys have 93 octane everywhere?
Highest I can find is 91 and Im running 12.4:1 copression just fine...

Is there any disadvantage of running 93?

Yer i have a 89 crx si jdm with a zc (DOHC ZC - JDM), with simota chrome intake, k&n xtream flow filter, stock headers, and full 5zigen 2 1/4" exhaust, and mine does the exact "brup brup brup brup pop pop" on decel as slickCRX sed. Y does it do this? i have no resonator or cat, as here in NZ we dont have to have them
Well the whole point of a performance exhaust is to open up and let the engine breathe right? The popping noise when you decelerate can be caused by two things..if you have a resonator/glasspack..could be that or something called backpressure. Makes a popping noise as the RPM's creep down. Happens all the time on hondas and pretty much most 4 bangers heh.
Ahh true, but is it bad? will it do any damage? yer ive herd quite a few hondas do it, and im pretty sure my car has always done it
