is vtec working
ok i have fixed most of my problems on my jdm d15b but now i have a big one. i recently let a friend drive my car and was told that vtec wasn't kicking in. so i hooked up a test light to the solenoid and sure enough it doesn't come on. and now that i think about it i have never really heard or felt the vtec even when i had a d16z6. my next option is to hook up a toggle switch to see what's wrong. i have checked most of wire connectors and everything's fine. i know the solenoid is good bc we hooked up a wire to the + cable and touched the housing and the solenoid clicked like trying to engage, anyother options? thanks, ps i have a stock p28 ecu.
so...did you hook up the test light with the hood off and you sitting on your engine bay while someone drove your car?
or was your car parked?
I'll assume it was the second one, going off the fact that you're still alive. and tell you simply vtec doesn't engage while your car isnt moving. unless im missing something about the D series.
How did you friends know it wasnt turning on?

no that's the funny thing, i have ripped out the ecu and checked all of the connections and nothing seems wrong, but u can't hear or feel the vtec kick in

try another ECU. What bulb did you use? Also maybe your vtec old pressure switch is bad, or you are not getting enough oil pressure. Do warm up the car before you try to do that, and are you moving when you are trying to hit vtec?
Hmm, so no CEL...Well check this, in the engine bay you'll find the other fuse panel next to the battery. Go and check the "Back-Up" fuse....it's the 7A next to the 15a which is ecu. See if that is blown. Let me know.
yeah i let the car warm up to normal. and i have a different ecu, my 1st screwed up when a friend tried to chip it. i think it's the oil psi. but how do i check to make sure, i have an aftermarket gauge, but haven't hooked it up yet, bc i'm not sure where the oil pressure switch is and how hard it is to hook up.
hardwire the pressure switch, just join the two wires together, I think that should make the ecu think that you have enough oil pressure and see what happens. if vtec kicks in your switch is broken, if not I would check the oil pressure that you are getting over there.
i did blow that fuse when i first bough the car, i was installing a radio and the fuse blew. i wonder if that had anything to do with it? i drove the car for like a week before i found out what was wrong with my radios. i am curious if i messed up a wire when i blew the fuse and left it?

yeah, that's what you do if you are using a usdm ecu on some jdm motors that don't have vtec oil pressure switch.

so i twist the wires together with the car not running and listen for a click? sorry i am just sortof confused about when to twist the wires and what will happen
