Default VTEC Exhaust on a Non-VTEC?

Hey all-

First time posting here, I guess I'm here because of my girlfriends car. It's a '97 Accord, SE edition. It has the 2.2 liter engine, non-VTEC.

Well, the exhaust is up for replacment. Since it is her car, she wants a stock sounding system, no performace systems.

I would like to know if there is any fundamental difference between the 2.2 Liter VTEC engine's muffler as opposed to the non VTEC? I was thinking that it could possiably be free'er flowing? The reason that I ask, is that I believe that her car will look better with the two exhasut tips vs. the one. Since they are the same price, I figured that I'd just replace it with the VTEC muffler, unless you guys tell me otherwise.

Should be a 100% bolt up, correct?

Thanks
Erik Johnson

yes you can put a EX accord [4dr] exhaust on the car. I work for a dealer and one of the guys here did it, looks good 2.

heres the "vtec vs. non-vtec" exhaust deal:

EX's (Vtec) have a different bolt pattern off the car than DX/LX.........i believe their is an exception to this starting in 96 (lx went to the 3 bolt setup i believe?).....BTW: mufflers dont matter, because they can be welded onto the origional piping......your SE shares the bolt pattern from the EX, so any "vtec" exhaust will work great (+ i believe the piping diameters might be a fraction of an inch different)

Yeah, the lx/dx exhaust is about 1.8", whereas the ex is about 2". But in the end, its still crush bent.

Ok, here's another question for the experts:

I'm going to be replacing the exhaust from the cat back. So, I could just go ahead and order the whole EX (VTEC) exhaust, correct?

I'm looking at getting a Walker replacment exhaust, any bad things about this particular exhaust? Hopefully, it's mandral bent...(hey, I can dream ).

Does anyone know if the cat to mid car extention exhaust pipe bolt pattern is the same from the EX to the SE?

Thanks again!

The only thing that would be different between the trim levels is the flange pattern at the end of the cat. And I didnt even know they were different, because most exhaust companies (Apexi, Greddy, and RS*R to name a few) sell the same exhaust for LX and EX for the 5th gens. As long as the SE has a 3 bolt catalytic converter flange it should fit.

are you asking for a muffler install or a catback install????

catback can be done at your house

muffler cost will very depding where you go (youll want to go to a muffler shop to have them weld it on)......maybe $40.....but that may be way off, its just a ballpark # i pulled out of my ***

Hey all-

I want to thank you for all your help with my questions. Looks like I'll be ordering a Walker cat back exhaust, for an EX.

Hopefully, you guys noticed the "other user" asking similar questions that was not me.

Thanks again!
