Default Will vtec switch in with cable speedo instead of vss electronic speedo?

My CRX Si has cable speedo.
About to install JDM b16 with Y1 tranny that has vss electronic speedo!!!!
Some people have suggested I take out the electronic vss and simply plug in the old cable so I can still use my old Si cluster.
Sounds good if it is that simple.
My understanding is that the vtec won't switch in unless the vehicle is travelling over 30kph. So how will the computer know the speed if the electronic vss is removed?

I do have the SiR cluster with electronic speedo but definitely don't want the hassle of fitting it to the car.
Please explain.

Just trying to find out how similar your situation was.
Did you have an Si CRX with cable speedo and installed an electronic vss tranny with the B16 motor?
The plan for me was to use my original D16 wiring harness on the new B16, and add the 4 wires for vtec. This will cut out the vss wiring all together.
Still work do you think?

i had a 91 crx si with a jdm b16a swap. i used the wire harness from the old d16 and the cable speedo. i don't remember if i got the cable speed do from an older integra (90-93) or if i use the one from the old d16 tranny. try to remove the speedo output form both tranny and see if the lenght and gears are the same.

Use the cable speedo. The computer gets the signal from the gage cluster.
