Too bad you can't get all 3 with $1000. I think you should get some quality coilovers.

Its not like hes trying to prepare the car for pro autox.

True that he's probably not going to enter any AutoX's soon, but sleeve-type coilovers on stock shocks do not work very well for long. He wouldn't have enough $$ to buy decent shocks in your intake/header/coilover plan, so I say screw the header and get a coilover/strut combo in addition to an intake

Sorry buddy, and all fellow people with Ls. I truely think that it's a waste of money building up a ls with out build it with vtec or boost. No matter how bored out your block and built your head is with an Ls motor, it wouldn't be fast. To me it's a waste of money putting on built on unless you have plans on putting on a vtec head. Other wise i would say spend the 1000 on some nice coil-over. You won't regret it. I agree with what someone said earlier, if you get s2 coil-over without shocks, you'll end up spending more then 249 for the springs. You'll need a nice set of shocks. Do things right the first time, dont lag on it or you'll end up wasting alot more time and money.

Ok, first of all, buy ALL your mods used--you will get much better prices. With 1000 you can get all of the following:

-set of drop springs (sportlines, h&r sports, etc) $200
-used koni reds $150
-used ceramic DC 4-2-1 $150
-ebay CAI or SRI $25 + (quality filter $25)

This whole setup totals only $550, and these are real world prices. Thats 450 left to spend on HIDs, tints, CF hood, or whatever...

just my .02

i would say get an intake and then look into some good coilovers such as teins or even a koni/ground control setup.
it is hard and expensive to get alot of power out of a b18b unless you go turbo, lsvtec, or nitrous; lsvtec is probably the most difficult to get right out of those three (probably more expensive too)

But, I'm sure he wants quality parts. DC headers suck. I've never heard anything good about them. Coil sleeves with no shocks isn't good. And I would never pay $325 for an intake. Buy it used, I got mine for 50 bucks.

Drop springs don't run $200. Maybe the Sportlines, but all the H&Rs I have seen run for about 130-150. And if he wants a quality setup, then Koni Reds aren't good except for a mild drop, DC sucks and I would never buy anything like that used because they seem really prone to dents and holes.

Just stick with a good suspension setup.

I agree that spending $325 for an intake is a waste. I got mine for $30 off of ebay, and the differences between this and a more expensive intake are not much.

I was reading a dyno test in SCC the other day.... intake and header on a 2000 LS gained 3.7whp. Not worth the money if you ask me.

A good security system? I dunno...maybe it's just me, but why spend money on a car and leave it as easy pickings for a thief?

yes, get a clifford alarm or compustar, both are fairly exspensive alarms but ALOT cheaper than replacing ur car.

EVERYBODY IS TALKING ABOUT MODS... but which would you think is more important... finding parts of the car that don't work properly and replace THOSE first... or just going all out with parts that don't even really need swapping... from experience... find parts of the car that need tuning, swapping, etc.. and work on that, i mean, come on, you don't want all this **** and all of a sudden, your tie-rod end goes out, and now your left with no money... know what i mean?
