Default B20/vtec or non-vtec

Hey I'm new to this site but heard you guys were helpful. Right now I have a 92 GSR witha a B20 right now and haveran into a couple problems. 1, It started yesterday but my 3rd gear has started to grind at any rpm, should I swap out the YS1 or rebuild it? 2, I have a HKS Hi-Power muffler with 2.25 piping but have ran into quite a few leaks but now I want to get a full cat-back, anything anybody recommends good? 3rd, I'm found out that when i had the motor put in they did not put on of the motor/tranny mounts on...where can I get one? thanks for your help and sorry if I sound dumb! Oh yeah, I'm confused right now on if I should do the CRVtec swap or stay non-vtec and just build the hell out of the motor? A friend mentioned increasing the compression a little but I'm not sure about that and how well the block is. How is the reliability issue on the vtec conversion, I'm still in high school and just dont have money spittin' out my butt to be spent so I kinda need something decent. thanks

if you are looking for a good cat back, go with a brand name, nothing cheap. Greddy, HKS, RSR.maybe you should think about apexi n1 or the apexi ws2, those are good.

about the exhaust...I dont really want anything raspy...like some miatas with an exhaust sounds !! I went to the honda dealer today and the guy said that me missing a tranny mount would be a cause of the 3rd gear grinding so that will be first on my list. About the B20/swap...should I just stay non-vtec and just build build the hell out of the motor or would that be wasting my money and time?

yeah building the non vtec motor sounds like a good idea if you dont wanna spend lots of money....do you want to go all motor? or FI? there are lots of routes you can do to make good power. and if you dont want a raspy exhaust....think about hks or greddy, my favorite exhaust is fujitsubo power getter exhaust. if you wanna go all motor or fi pm me or email me at http://www.n0rcalrockstar@hotmail.com and ill try to help you out.

first of all get that mount fixed before anything.... seriously.

a b20/vtec is a sweet combo. i rode in a dc2 w/ that conversion. it was torqued-out.

the conversion isnt so easy, and would prolly cost you 2-3 grand for a light build (parts and labor) there's alot involved. in parts were talking head w/ full valvetrain, cams, and distributer. vtec solenoid. wireing harness. new ecu. machining. intake manifold & throtte-body. sensors. wires & sparkplugs. new header. new cat-back. special head studs. gaskets. and randon things.

then there's the custom fabrication and machining involved to make everything fit & line-up correctly. fuel management. labor & most importantly, tuning.

then there's those extras people with the cash can always do.
i.e. building the block, porting, cams, building head, even forced induction.

save yourself a headache and fix your car up for now. when money permits buy a better platform and go from there. or get yourself an economy car and build the b20vtec on the side.

Where can I find a fujitsubo power getter exhaust? What is the price usually go for? I'm thinkin' about just stayin' non-vtec for now just for reliability issues.

you can find the fujitsubo power getter on http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com only for the dc2. or try http://www.boomplustoys.com . i honestly think the fujitsubo exhuast are really great but if you have 2g's you can buy their most expensive exhaust, but thats really expensive. if you search google under fujitsubo you can find websites with videos of the power getter and other systems on the ITR. you are a trial user for a while then you become a full member, any q's just email me
