Default turbo high mileage GSR?

Hey, i just wanted to know if it would be advisable to turbocharge a GSR with 120k miles on the motor. The car is all highway mileage and runs great. I wanted to know if the motor can handle being turboed after that many miles and if i would need to upgrade any internals if i did turbo it.

Do a compression test first. Then if it's good go for it.

Have a compression or leakdown test performed to make sure all the cylinders are performing well. The only thing your going to have to watch out for are all the old seals and gaskets throughout the motor. Being a car with 120k they are already worn out enough and the boost is just going to accelerate the process. If you do turbo it all the gaskets valve seals etc should be replaced probably along with piston rings, all new bearings, new water and oil pump... the list goes on and on.

how much do you think the parts would cost, piston rings, bearing, etc? I have an uncle that can help me put the new parts in, so labor cost isnt really an issue. Also, what turbo kit would you recommend, and how much hp do you estimate it to push at the wheels?

Your best bet would be to look around the Forced Induction forum and just read, read, read, then read some more. If you don't know what turbo kits are out there you should wait a little to go and turbo your car. I don't mean to be an *** but it will make things easier for you in the future if you know what your getting into.

But to answer you im not sure how much all the little parts will cost but a good turbo kit is the Drag gen III and if done right with all the necessary upgrades to the car anywhere from 250-500hp just depends how crazy you want to get and how much money you have to spend

thanks for the info. I know a good amount about turbos, but the main reason put this post up was to get advice (which you guys gave me) about turboing a higher mileage car. However, i didnt know that i was going to need refreshment of internal parts, but now i know. thanks again

Unless its showing obvious signs of wear and tear from the tests, boost the hell out of it, and when it blows, rebuild it bigger and better.
