Default Knock sensor question, built motor, Apexi Power FC

Something that I noticed with my Apexi Power FC is that there is alot of activity with the knock sensor after about 4500...

How sensitive is the stock KS to the sounds high compression and big cam make, etc? The motor is well built and has been in this exact form for over a year, however, it definately is a noisy piece, especially in VTEC, hence my conjecture that the sensor activity is simply from motor noise-

As far as I can tell, it's not pinging...unfortunately, I was using a P28 b4 this so this issue never came up...

Note: I am using cast pistons @ 11.9:1 compression in a d16y8

I would recommend to get a J&S Safeguard. The Power FC does only display a knock value, but has no active knock control.

The manual says that a value above 60 might be knock but doesn't have to be.

Cast pistons make a lot of noise the KS might misinterprets as knocking.

With the Safeguard you can adjust the sensitivity and if retards your ignition if necessary.

Depends on the knock sensor and location. I've seen bunk readings before for sure. This one was right after start:

the stock knock sensor might just be confusing engine's normal noise as knock.
thats why the stock ecu stops paying attention to the knock sensor on high rpms.

i'm also having a similar issue at above 4500 rpm, i am getting knock on my Power FC, but no power drop off or evidence on my spark plugs (light red in color).

100 octane didn't do anything to remedy the situation either...

i probably need to retune...but my a/f is currently flat across the board around 13:1
