Default knock sensor IS bad for a built engine

i was talking to my tuner the other day, ed from balanced performance. we were discussing knock sensors and he said "there great, for a stock block", "but bad for built engines". the reason he went on to explain is that there is alot more "noise" in a block w/forged internals, which fools the sensor into thinking there is a knock, retarding timing and losing power.

now, you cant just not hook it up though. you must run like a p28 w/h22 maps, or turn it off, which is only capable if you have a hondata or similar system.

just some info i thought id share since ive seen a few posts about this lately.

Knock sensors have no place in a built race motor. Built race motors run differently, the conditons they run in are different than your stock motor. These certain conditons might be picked up by the knock sensor as harmful and a power degrade follows shortly after. In a built streetmotor it would be unwise to not use a knock sensor, fully built race motors are not built for longevity but for power. If any one tells you to not use a knock sensor on a street motor do not listen, max power is good but not if it doesn't last.

Agree w/ the above! An EGT gauge will tell you when things are going TU, if you pay attention.

Anybody have a knock sensor for a H23 that works and they want to sell it? I accidently broke mine while removing the engine harness a while back.
