Default car doesnt like starting in the afternoons

i have a 90 crx Si with a AEM CAI, 2.5 catback, and adjustable cam gear. i'm running +8 degrees on the cam.

when i get up in the morning it starts fine. when i go to leave work at 2pm or so... it takes about 50 cranks to get it going. after its afternoon temper tantram i'm fine all day. and this happend before the timing change... and it only happens in the summer time when its butt hot out. any ideas?

i have changed the plugs and wires... i'm going to go for a new cap and injector cleaning soon i supose.

Deff sounds like the main relay, get yours soldered or buy a new one.To keep heat down (if you park it in a safe place)leave the windows cracked abit, and the sunroof open some till you fix it.

I have a new main relay still in the bag. I bought it because I thought it was why my car wasn't starting but it was in fact the ignition switch dying. They are $50+ new from most dealers. I will sell it for $20+shipping. I actually have 2 of them (the other one was used in my car but it was only 1 year old).

Why does heat affect the main relay?

It makes the solder on the board to expand and cause a bad connection between the components and the circuit board, i.e. fuel pump doesn't prime. The solder breaks down over the years, causing this problem.

yeah... mines does that too... i was told by an electrical place that it was my main fuel pump relay and the ecu keeps on trowing a code 16 (fuel injector) ... at first it would only do it after trying to turn it back on shortly after turning it off ( like after pumping gas) but now it wont turn on in the afternoon at all it will only start in the morning and night ... does anyone know where the main fuel pump is located since im gonna change it myself??? 90 civic 4dr lx with a d16y7 swap...

Guys, i've had a bad relay on my 87 civic Si, and it wasn't priming the fuel pump, so i put a different one on there and it was fixed, but on my 91 dx, i still think its the main relay, but instead of the fuelnot priming, i think it is the ignition portion of the relay. I know i got fuel pressure cause i have a filter mounted b&m gauge. but you know how the main relay does fuel pump, ecu power, and ignition power. so you guys think it could be the ignition portion as well. ? also someone said they redesigned the relay for more optimal cooling. ?
