Default Wow, 2nd day after tuning it and blammo! :)

Actually it was more of a crunch.

We "tuned" my car to feel and safe EGT the other day. Had LOTS of fun out running around last night, was GREAT picking on the slow cars of the world. Today, I drove it to work, and decided to go for a ride for lunch. Big mistake. It started to up the EGT a little today, soI threw 10% more fuel at the top end. It was running like a scalded dog when it happened. I was having fun, first gear was all but non existent once boost came on, and second was burning pretty good once the car hit VTEC. WOW what fun a boosted hybrid is! Well, third came and pulled hard, and I went to fourth, and as usual it shifted right in, fast shift, off the gas. Get back on the gas, bring up the revs to match and drop the clutch<all happened in the course of 1/4 of a second, just explaining how I shift>. There was nothing there. I went to 5th. Nothing. I started to question reality. How can something that felt so good 3 seconds earlier gone to a slightly smoking pile of **** so quickly? Luckily I was only about 2 miles from work. I coasted into a nearby parking lot, and let the engine cool down, while cringing from the crunching noises coming from my gearbox. Lock her up and foot it back to work, 15 minutes late from lunch. Dammit.

Here's my thoughts... add more if you want.

Could be my clutch... it's IS a sprung hub <hopefully it's what's broke>.

Could be the transmission <I've broken one before... stripped every tooth off the spider gears and the differential hated me so much it made a run for it and ended up just making a dime sized hole in the trans case>

Any ideas?

Im not looking for sympathy, just entertaining those who have been there before.

BTW, anyone selling a 90-93 LS transmission that's in good shape?

do this one test. Put the shifter into where 1st gear is supposed to be with the car running. Rev the motor. Does the speedometer register movement? If so, your problem lies in your differential most likely. But the likely culprit is the clutch disc either losing a spring or shearing the face off the disc.

That would be BAD, cause here's my clutch.. I'm thinking springs in the disk, not the disk pads.

Well, we got it pulled back to my storage last night

15 miles of fun in a dead stick honda, behind my mustang being pulled with a 10 foot tow rope. Wooohooo. We got itup to 55 mph being towed like this, and kept it to the non major roads to keep out of the "official eye" of the police. Can't beleive we got away with pulling that thing 15 miles without even a peep. Laid back *** Memphis cops. I guess doing the affair at midnight/1am probably helped out too.

Anyway, here's a little more info from being pulled. The diff is working. Speedo is reading, and that's all good. Here's the BAD part. The tranny when in neutral was making whining noises like hell when being pulled. That's what makes me thing I shreaded the main staft's gears. Fuzuck.

Now I REALLY need an LS tranny. Anyone?

Very true... Engine was and still is kicking ***... apparently too much for the stocker Honduh parts

LS tranny., here I come... Also, I'm gunna get a slightly less agressive clutch disk so I'll MAYBE not do this again...

6 puck kevlar or MAYBE ceramic should be ok I hope.

What do you mean, it's reading? If you put the car in first gear, the car doesn't go anywhere, you step on the gas and the speedo climbs, your diff is busted. If the speedo does not climb, your problem lies elsewhere. My bet is still in the springs for the clutch disc, Honda trannies are pretty strong.

Hmmm possibly. Here's wat I experienced. I didn't crank the car for fear of further damage. We pulled it and the speedo climbed with wheel speed. Also, there was a machine whining noises coming fairly loudly form the trans even while in nertral. When in neutral, the clutch disk will not spin, right? There is my major clue for a "not the clutch" situation. I guess we'll know soon enough. Plans are in order to tear it down tomorrow night if all goes well. Friday at the LATEST.

When I first broke it, I left it running, but didn't notice the speedo working or not. I DID get under the hood and look for axles spinning while it was in gear. No movement at the trans.

Possibly the throw out bearing ate itself, it another possibility.... I suppose.

it's possible that the noises are from one of the springs in the hub breakign loose and wedging between the flywheel and pressure plate; I had that happen once.

Yeah i understand that, but would that spin and make noises if the car was in neutral?

mine did... not a LOT of noise but some. as long as the flywheel is spinning if there's loose stuff in the cluch housing you'll hear some noise.
