VTEC Contoller + New ECU
When i get my apex vtec contoller do i have to get my ecu reprogrammed for 98 civic dx?? i have heard that you can use a non-VTEC SOHC ECU on a DOHC VTEC engine, if you just need to get around, it does NOT hurt the engine in any shape, form, or fashion. BUT, you will not have any working VTEC.<---so that basically means that my vtec contoller would be pointless w/o a vtec ECU?

im asking if i get my b16a2 do i have to get a programmed ecu in order for the VTEC and Contoller to work? beacuse i read that with a standard SOHC ECU the VTEC wont work
oh, umm, i would guess so. why are you going to use your sohc non vtec ecu anywaise? your not getting an ecu with your engine? i think it would be better off if you just buy a chipped p28, theres alot of them for sale going for about 150 already chipped for Dohc Vtec motors. but i dont know about the vtec controller thingy.
don't use your sohc non vtec ecu, the only ecu people use w/ a dohc engine is the p28 which can be rechipped to dohc specs, that ecu is vtec already.

. those ecu's can be chipped but it is real difficult and expensive for someone to chip that. what you have to do is get a 98 gs-r ecu which sucks or get a 1992-1995 p28-get that chipped to dohc vtec spec, or a 1992-1995 P06 or P07 and get that chipped to dohc vtec spec which would cost more because you have to add the VTEC in the P06. or you can get any 1992-1995 GS-r ecu. the 94-95 gs-r ecu is a P72. i forgot what the 92-93 gs-r ecu is called. you can also get a 94-95 P30 which came out of a DOHC del slo. you definately have to get a ecu jumper which converts your OBD2
harness to a OBD1
harness when you put a 92-95 ecu in a 98 car...HTH
