Default Cam Timing

I have recently installed a new AEM cam gear on my D16 engine in a CRX Si. I have such modifications as headers, high-flo cat, cat-back, air intake, spark plug wires, racing clutch. I advance the intake of my gear 2 degrees and I notice a little bit more torque. I wondered if anyone with similar modifications has had luck with advancing or retarding the gear.

Thanks,
Rick

Default Re: Cam Timing (r30slick)

You are correct. Advancing the cam timing lower the power, giving more torque below 4000 rpm. Using 2-3 degrees advance make the car fairly driveable in traffic. Never need to go above 3000 rpm.

But for REAL fun and gains at the track, use 3 degrees retard to move the powerband upwards. Just remember to reset your ignition timing ANYTIME you change the cam timing.

Food for thought......

This is my old 1.5L DX (93) using a 1.6L CRX cam. When using a 1.6L cam in a 1.5L, timing is off a 1/2 tooth. But the graphs do show thw difference that cam timing can make.
