i have a jdm B16A 2nd gen installed in a 5th gen 4dr civic.. every morning when i turn on the engine i can hear a rattling sound coming from the engine.. i think it comes from the hydraulic part of the valve train (lost motion device) .. it sounds like the mid rocker arms rattle a little when the oil has not reached the lost motion device... the sound last a few seconds (2 seconds) until the oil pressure builds in the top of the engine.... this is something common in DOHC VTEC engines??? or its another silent (expensive) problem coming up? note: the sound is not getting louder/lasting longer with the time.. it has been happening since 1 1/2 year in the same manner/ intensity... please help and comments!!!!..

I used to hear the rattling also at start up. Then i did a valve adjustment and now it is as quit as can be. When was your last valve adjustment? Did you or a shop do it? If it is not that then it might be your LMA's. Good time to upgrade to Type r LMA's.

 

i had that rattling before....it rattled for a few days then my catalytic converter blew all the honey comb stuff out of the cat...check your cat
