1992 Civic HB VX questions
I have a VX that I bought off my sister for $400.00 to use as a commuter to work (Marines). I thought about doing the swaps for a bigger and better engine, etc.. but not really into that right now. The car sat in her garage for 3 years so I put a new battery in it and tried to start it. It turned over the first time then died and now all I get is one click when I turn the key. The head gaskets were bad on it when she bought it so I think it's done. The motor is a D15Z1.
My question: What motor is a direct replacement for this? I want to keep all my attachments, i.e. tranny, ecu, linkages, a/c, etc.. I just want to take out the old and put in a new with now hassles. I am in the search of one so if anyone has something or can give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

You could do what I did - replace the entire drivetrain with one from either an EX or Si along with exhaust and ECU. They can be had for quite cheap. Another option is to find another Z1 (obvious) or the D15B8 from the CX. If you get the CX engine, get it's ECU also. I am pretty sure you'll have to change some wiring on the oxygen sensor harness but I assure you it would be very easy (I believe that it is a 1 wire O2 and as such may not need any changes at all).
Hope this helps...

D16Z6, any from 92-95 will work. I used a 94. If you use this engine, you will have to change a couple pins on the O2 circuit, but it's easy enough. I'd also suggest getting the transmission as well. I get around 37 mpg with this setup, and as good as 40.
I will look around for one. I have been searching alot everywhere. If I was going to do a whole swap, wouldn't I want to go with a b16 or something? What is the difference between a d and b series? But I think I will stick with something around the d16.

D series will be more readily available and for much cheaper than the B series. Granted, the B has more stock horses but for the price of the swap you can build a nice D with more.
The way I look at it, if you plan on using this mainly for communting (as I do), the only way to go is D - wear this engine out and get another. They can be had for cheap. I got my Z6 with transmission, full 94 Si exhaust and ECU for $550. If you wear out a B series your looking at quite a bit more ($1000+) for just the engine. Oh, and parts are much cheaper for the D series as well.
