Default Sub just "turned off" all of a sudden...

My friend was rolling around one day and as usual, had his system turned on, which includes a Audio____ amp (i forgot the name), and an L7. Anyways, after a an hour or so, the sub just stopped working. He checked all the connections and the amp to find that everything was the same as it was when the sub was working. After a day of the sub being "dead," he parked the car thinking he had to buy a new sub.

The next day he started up the car, and lo and behold, the sub worked again. What was going on?

Like he said, maybe the amp went into protection mode and shut down for safety. Whe it cools down, it comes back on. In this case, check for good ground connection, check for impedance or load at the sub output. Some amps are not stable at lower than 2 ohms and overheat in a short time. Also, check for shorts.

Is the amp located in a ventilated area?
