5th gear grind
synchro, shift fork, and maybe even the gear, depending on how long you let it go on like this.
Definitely change the fluid and use Honda MTF, that will help quiet it down a bit, but eventually the synchro will need to be replaced. When you change the fluid, drain it through a coffee filter, and look for brass colored chips...that's your synchro..

That would be a cause. Also fast and hard shifting.

You can replace certain ones. Depending on on miles, I would also recommend replacing certain bearings.
Estimate around $200+ for parts and much more on labor.
The 5th gear syncro is actually quite easy compared to the rest of them.

try gm synchromesh before honda mtf.
gm sychromesh has helped grinds in numerous honda applications. do a search on synchromesh and you'll see.
also, gm synchromesh is the same as pennzoil/ac delco synchromesh. they sell gm synchromesh @ gm/chevy/pontiac dealers, and pennzoil @ certain autozones.
give it a whirl before you do anything else...

beign as I am too lazy to swap the fluid on my own and dont; really have time I should be able to go to pep boys and jsut give it to acura to try right? Will the fluid solve the problem or just delay the problem?
It is chance. if the problem is bad then it will do nothing. If it's minor, then it will cover up the problem although it will always be there.
I wouldn't trust my car to pep boys.

Had the same problem last Jan. I changed the tranny fluid and would still grind. I took it to Acura dealer for service since I still had warranty. They ended up changing all my syncros...no grinding ever since.

I was still under original waranty...I took it to Mike Harvery Acura to service the 5th gear grind and got all my syncros replace under warranty. Pretty good service there...even left my car inside their garage at night.
