does putting a hollowed out catalyic convertor do anything?!
A mechanic told me to take out my cat and replace it with a hollowed out one.. does that do THAT much for my cars performance??

Yeah, it lessens the velocity in the exhaust piping and therefore ruins flow decreasing performance - buy a high clow cat or just keep the stock one.

It can make your car sound and smell like ****, thats always a benefit. Hes right, if yur gonna do it get a test pipe, dont mess with clearin out yur cat.
Get a test pipe and save the cat for inspection time. 50-60 for a pipe, and 100-150, depend on the brand, for a new cat...

That's like saying jamming a sponge down your throat will help you breath better.
Don't hollow the cat unless it's meant for the track... our environment is already fvcked up as it is, without people driving around without cats.

thanks for the replys guys....it was actualy a FAKE cataylic convertor.... stainless steel they called it a racing cat.... but i just got it in i noticed a lill more nudge on the high end... but thanks guys for teh replys
When u hollow out a cat it isn't exactly smooth inside - so that lessens velocity by making the air catch on minute bumps and such. I guess LOL
I guess i really don't know. But nobody I know ever had their performance improved by this. Race cats and straight pipes (no no on street
- duh) make power - but never a hollowed out one...

Damn it, just take everything off and run your car open header.
Yeah...you **** will be raw!
Seriously, just leave the cat alone. If anything, just go buy a hi-flow cat.

WHAT TO DO NOW I JSUT PUT IN THE CAT.. AND MY ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON....... THE MECHANIC SAID ITS NORMAL I NEEED HELP
get a non hollowed out cat put that in ... reduce smog , oh and while your at it your caps key is on.. it's that key right next to your a key
yes it will do something, in california, it will do a fine for at least $1000.
probably only a few extra horses or maybe even decreasing? but IMO not worth risking that smog fine. just buy a high-flow cat

If your FI you'll see some big gains from running a test pipe. I'm running a test pipe right now w/ the cat shield welded onto it just in case a cop pulls out a mirror.
