New here, need CRX ignition help...replacement motor, but not modified in any way,
Well, about the car...
1988 CRXSi, replacement engine, but bone-stock. Original engine threw a rod through the case years ago. I have been driving this CRX for years and it has developed a recurring ignition issue.
Apparently, at some time in its past the distributor rotor was replaced and the retaining screw was cross threaded. It has allowed the rotor to 'wobble', and burnt out three coils. Each time steps were taken to try and secure the retaining screw to the shaft of the distributor.
The last time it was in the shop, I asked the mechanic to Locktite the screw in place. He did, and at first, the problem seemed to be improved...it's not. It is coming back again. Loss of spark, fluctuating Tach/RPMs.
I asked the mechanic about a final solution and he suggested replacing the ignition system entirely.
I need advice from you all. The problem is in the shaft of the distributor. A replacement cap is not what I need. I need to get to the root of the problem and that means replacing the entire distributor, shaft and all.
What do I order? Link? Product number?
Thanks in Advance,
TRG
