Default Will this be effective?

I was working with the wiring on my vtec controller and I think i shorted it out, it wont anymore. So, i needed a different way to activate my vtec because my ecu is a PM7. So, i hooked up a toggle switch using the power from the ecu. I checked using a 12 volt light, and sure enough, it lights up. So now to my question... Its a hassle to keep pushing that switch all the time. For regular everyday driving, I would keep the switch off, only switching it on when needed. But when racing, I would just keep the switch on even at idle, all vtec, all the time. I think this would actually be better since the engine will never fall out of vtec, and when youre racing.. you should always be in the higher rpms, even when launching. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

In my old civic, I had to have it setup like that. It was ap ain in the ***. I would maybe look at making a switch that turns on at wide open throttle, like some NOS applications are. You will also notice that with the vtec on even at idle, it will be eratic.

theres a way to hook the vtec up to a shift light... and have the shift light trigger at lets say 5500... and the light will set off the vtec...

I understand that ill have sucky bottom end, but when you race is bottom end all that useful? When your racing you usually keep your engine in the top end, in the more powerful powerband. but when im just driving normally ill keep vtec off. but wouldnt this be an "ok" idea, since the engine will never fall out of vtec? i just need to do this until i can get another vtec controller.

You do not want to engage vtec too early... the car will barely run (done it).

My friend had this setup on his B16 when his Vtec went out. He kept the switch on at all times and there was no difference. The car didnt run weird or anything.

The cheapest way to do it would be an rpm switch, like one from summit. As far as keeping vtec on -all- the time, i have heard many times that it is definatly not good to engage vtec under 3k due to there not being enough oil pressure built up to properly throw the 'pins' in the rocker assembly. It states the same thing in the owners manual for Apex vtec controllers. I would hold off on racing until you get a better way to activate it.
