Default What exactly does chipping to p28 do for turbo apps?

my friend told me he had to get his gsr p72 chipped to p28. he was told from hondata. he uses the old school hondata 2b. why exactly do you have to do a p28 conversion by going turbo?

would chipping p72 to p28 have any affects on a allmotor setup? or is it just dumb to do?

Your friend is wrong. He didnt have to get this p72 chipped to a p28. I don't even know what that means.

However you have to modify a obd1 ecu inorder to run hondata on your car. Which means you have add a bridge and few other connectors into the ecu.

I think you're messed up on your terminology. You don't "chip" one ECU to another.

well, hondata told him to send his stock ecu to them so they could chiip it he said.

can you explain then why you would go from p72 to p28?
what is involved during the proceess?

I am running Hondata on my turbo civic. I sent my P06 ECU to Hondata to be socketed [or "chipped"]. It came back with a 28 pin ROM socket, a chip, a jumper, some resistors, and a 4 pin plug installed in the ECU. They do not convert the ECU to another type of ECU...just add hardware to allow you to run the software.

The only benefit of a P72 over a P28 is that the P72 has IAB's and a Knock sensor.

i see. so why would someone need to sockett an ecu?
is it for turbo apps only?

No. Many all motor guys run modified [Hondata, Uberdata, etc] ECU's. The reason people socket their ECU is so they can change the fuel and ignition maps of the ECU. Socketing allows you to insert a custom ROM that you set up yourself and custom tailor to your engine, allowing for maximum power extraction.

the only real advantage of a p72 p30 pr3 p61 is the knock board in the ecu which can be added to any ecu if you can find one other than that there is no other advantage to those ecus. you can add the iab to any obd1 ecu
you can convert a nonvtec to vtec ecu
the last one i did i used a po5 and now it runs a gsr with iab
