Default Check Engine Light

Im starting to get REALLY pissed at my teg.

when i start the car sometimes the CEL comes on and the car will not idle, when i push the gas its hesitant up to 3200 and then thats as far as it will go.
If i unplug my ecu and plug it back in its usually good to go.

If i put a paper clip in to see what the code is it won't flash or anything. its like the paper clip isn't even there.

Anyone have ANY ideas as what my problem could be???

First make sure you are jumping the conectors right. If you are convinced you are jumping them correctly then your ecu is probably bad. Borrow one from a friend and find out.

i know that i am jumping the connectors right i have done it hundreds of times on cars.
think it could be a loose wire in my obd2 to obd1 jumper harness?? its homemade by some guy.
i am going to try my gf's chipped p28 and see if thats any better.

You've got an OBD-1 ecu, right? The service connector might not be hooked up right. Take pin D-4 at the ECU & connect that to ground. That's what the paperclip is supposed to be doing...

Intermittent problems is what the stored error codes are all about. Did you get an error code when you grounded D-4?? That would be a real good starting point for figuring it out. Until you do that you're just wandering around in the dark.
