Default V-TEC not working correctly?

I own a Honda Civic 2000 Ex and when i hit 5500 rpm's i can hear the v-tec but i dont feel it kick in. I hit it most of the time when i get onto a freeway on-ramp but never get that boost when the v-tec hits. Is there possibly, something wrong with the v-tec in my car since i dont get that sudden boost in speed? I asked a friend of mine if he gets a boost when his 2003 accord LX non v6 hits 5500 and he said all the time even on a hill.

the crossover in D series is quite weak...If it isn't throwing a code then it should be working fine. Oil Pressure must be built up for VTEC to work correctly, VTEC isn't gonna work if you get in a cold car and try to dog the car.

Gotta warm up the car buddy. Like R33CIVIC said, it wont work in a cold car. Even if it isnt cold u still gotta warm it up. My mom has a 2002 Civic EX Coupe and it picks up quick. When I floor it the car goes mad. I took out a Integra once with it..and a 98 Accord....that cars crazy

On a fairly stock SOHC, you're not really gonna feel VTEC cross over, and if you do then it means you're poorly tuned...

there is no "kick". Why doe people always expect to get thrown back into their seats when they hear the allmighty "VTEC"
