Default Vtec problems

my friend has a 98 sh and vtec is inly working in 1st and 2nd gear, it does not work in 3rd or 4th. what could be the cause of this. also the car does not rev past 6700rpm, he has a apex vtec contorller, could that have anything to do with it, he hasnt touched the vtec contorller, it was tuned for him at a local shop. need answers fast!! thanks

did vtec work properly after he had the controller tuned? or did it happen right after he got the car tuned? If you post all the settings from his controller, as well as what mods he has, we might be better able to help you.

it worked fin after he had it installed, jus recently is started messin up, he has the vtec set to 5200, thats all i kno bout his controller, umm other than vtec controller he has intake, everything else is stock including exhaust

how's the oil level? vtec won't engage if there isn't enough oil pressure or oil. hmm thats all i can think of right now, ill think some more and get back to you..
