Default A few quick questions about the D16z6

Hey whats up guys, im new to this forum, and to hondas. I owned an 00' celica GT-S which was sadly recked in an accident (drunk driver broad sided me). So I just picked up a 1995 civic si hatch with my insurance money and cant wait to see what i can get this thing to do. I'd like to stick with the stock motor, and for now just simple bolt-ons, however this thread isnt about that. I was just wondering how much power the stock internaled d16 can safely hold, and to what rpm the stock valvetrain and internals can be pushed to without failing. Comming from my GT-S which redlined at 8350 rpm, im missen those revs.

i think it redlines around 7200rpm, someone correct me if im wrong, the engine has about 126hp, its a VERY good engine to turbo, ive seen people run 16psi daily drivers on stock internals, which isnt all that safe, but it shows the strength of these engines, they have a lot of potential for turbo which is the route i suggest taking if you are looking for quick power for cheap

Thanks guys, I was aware of the red line, but i was wondering how high the red line could be set with an aftermarket ECU without the internals and valvetrain letting go. Thanks again.

I would recommend no more than 7400. I believe valve float starts around 7800, but that is with fresh OEM valve springs. A turbo is the best route to getting high HP out of that engine. I have nearly 200whp from my D15B, and most of that power is around 6500 rpm. I never need to even come close to the redline unless I just feel like punishing it.

And concerning that aftermarket ECU, don't even consider any of the ECU chips on eBay. 99% of them are ****. Go here and read:http://www.pgmfi.org
