Smelling Fuel in car but not outside
86 Accord F/I 5-speed
Whenever i'm driving my car now I start to smell gas. Sometimes its not so bad and sometimes its pretty bad. I was messing around checking hoses and such today and noticed I did not smell it all outside my car but as soon as I stuck my head in the window I could smell it. I recently had a new clutch put in and I also replaced my TPS. Could the TPS be the problem? I didnt find any bad hoses or out right leaks so any input is appreciated.

Have you checked the hoses around the fuel pump area. I'm not sure where it is located exactly on your car but if the hoses going to and from the pump were leaking I bet you would smell it inside the car.
Where's the fuel pump access for '86? If it's under the back seat that would be a good place to start looking. Peel back the carpeting in the trunk, around the fuel fill pipe. There's usually a handful of smaller hoses & a valve or 2 hidden there. Liquid fuel lines usually go underneath the car, but sometimes there's a vapor line (for the EVAP canister) that goes up under the roof to the front.
do you recall overfilling your gastank at the gasstation?
if you overfill your tank, what happen is the charcoal canister is getting wet with the gasoline, the canister is never meant to be wet in the frist place.
one quick way to check is to loose it up and try to weight that bastard.
a good dry charcoal canister is much lighter than a gasoline'd one
if i am not mistaken 86 should have a closed system, right?

im not sure about the closed system but im pretty sure I didn't overfill my tank as I never have enough money to really do so
But where is this charcoal canister? I want to check it out anyway. I tried adjusting the TPS again but no luck I just screwed up my idle so I fiddle with it until it was okay again. I'm gonna take a look at the fuel pump area if I can get access to it.
thanks

might as well put it to da test n light urself a smoke 1st thing in da morning as u take off to work... if u survive, u're just paranoid... i suggest gettin off da drugs
They're all closed systems since about 1970... I don't know where the charcoal canister was in '86, look for something like a plastic canister about 1 liter, with a couple hoses to it, probably in the engine compartment.
Look under your car & find the gas tank. Is it under the back seat or under the trunk? Look under the carpeting for an opening covered up with some kind of lid screwed or snapped into place. Underneath that you'll see the gas tank itself, with a cover that has 1 or 2 hoses. Sniff around for whether gas is leaking.
Maybe there's 2 access lids. One for the fuel pump & one for the gas gauge sender. Or maybe they're combined together...
Then look around the filler pipe. Like I said there's usually a couple more hoses alongside the big fill pipe. Something's cracked, loose, or leaking.
