I've been looking at upgraded fuel pumps for my turbo setup (200whp max), and I've been mainly focusing on Walbro pumps. However, reading about the problems with them being loud and sometimes simply breaking down and failing scared me.

Also, I was thinking that for a lower boost (10 psi), low HP setup like mine, why would I need a 190/255lph fuel pump? They can support like 400-600whp right? Why wouldn't a DOHC VTEC fuel pump (Si, GSR, ITR, Prelude) suffice? They already flow 135lph which seems much more sufficient than my puny 79lph SOHC pump. They're OEM quiet also, which is cool.

Opinions? Thoughts?

 

I would not reccomend a stock fuel pump. For the exact same price u can get a walbro. If your going turbo...you need to get the walbro 255lph hp (high pressure) b/c u need to feed bigger injectors and higher pressures. Be safe..dont skimp on fuel otherwise say good bye to your motor.

 

you know at the time i was buiding up my fuel system i had a choice between the walbro 190 $95 or 00 si $30 bucks, i was only planning on boosting 5psi so i went with the si one, but omg now i have to change the fuel pump again cause i want to boost at least 16psi on a new motor setup,if i would have just got the good one to begine i would not even have to worry about it, or go through the hassle of removing it again. and btw i dont know who lie to you but the 190 walbro is pretty quite cant hear it unless you remove the rear seat and listen, now the 255 is a different story .

 

I was in a similar situation and decided to go with a walbro 255. I wouldn't worry about the pump being loud since I hardly even notice a difference with mine.

 

I am boosting 14 psi on stock pump on Accord 98. Fuel pressure stays at 48 psi at WOT.

GSR pump - $20 (average)
Walbro pump -$60-80 (average)

I do NOT have plans to build up my setup for at least a few years, if ever. And I KNOW this. That's why I'm saying that for MY application, a stock DOHC pump is a good upgrade for my SOHC setup instead of the Walbro pump. IMHO.

 

gsr pump will be fine for 200whp.

 

get a prelude fuel pump..

 

How much does a GS-R fuel pump flow?

 

you can get a bbk 255 for cheap to. Mine is louder then stock but really the only time i notice it is when i turn the key to on but not all the way to start. you here it run for a second. other then that your car would have to be majorly quiet to here it. exhaust, intake and road noise are much louder then the pump.

you shouldn't need the hp fuel pump unless you are running an fmu that requires raising the fuel pressure. For a hack or standalone setup the high volume walbro pump should work fine.

 

I'm not sure why people say the Walbro is loud. Maybe they have their rear seats taken out?
I can only hear mine if I turn on the ignition without starting the motor. There's like a 3 second hum as it comes to life, then it's just as quiet as stock. I can't hear it at all once the engine is on, even at idle.
