ECU troubles - can't check CEL code?!
A friend of mine tried out his chipped P28 ecu in my car to make sure everything was working fine. Well we hooked it up and the car ran like ****! We swapped the chips out and it still ran bad. It threw a code, so we jumped it out to check the code. Well when we jumped it, nothing happened, the CEL just stayed lit up and didn't flash or anything. Put my regular ecu back in and it ran fine. What is wrong with his ecu? Any ideas?
I know that I'm jumping the plug correctly because I can make my primary ECU throw a code 21 and it flashes accordingly.

You have some problems. I hope that this is a stupid question, but is the ECU for an auto (I'm assuming this is in a manual tranny car)? If not, then, I might say that your computer might be in need of some reprogramming, or you might need another ECU. Hope you get that **** resolved. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be throwing a code if you have the correct computer...
I'd suspect the ecu as said on AIM w/ joo and justin. I'd test it out with another said working ecu before I called it quits though. Best of luck guy.

mine does the samething too. i got a p28 with an itr chip in it and was switching the itr for a p30 chip and my cel light is on but the car runs normal.
i tried to pull the cel code but it just stays on no blinking. i put the itr chip back in and the cel light is off. i think i just had a bad chip.
