'00 Si B16A2 questions SPEED SENSOR
is it common for a speed sensor to go bad in a '00 B16a2? was driving on freeway and downshifted to 4th and floored it...after i was cruising interior lights got dim and CEL went on...got home and checked codes...was code 1, 17, and 21..reset ECU and only code 17 (speed sensor) keeps coming back...speedo wont work, and when cel for speed sensor is on, vtec dont kick in...also my alternator took a ****, and drained my battery...i know this because i replaced battery 2 days ago and car died on me yesterday...interior lights were dimming car got weak and radion turned off and eventually no electrical power at all...even when i turned on my hazards they got dimmer and slower and would flicker. i had to turn them off for a while, then turn on again............so im replacing alternator and battery, but not sure if i should replace speed sensor...i didnt realize how important the alternator really is...till now

a bad altenator will cause some sensors to indicate incorrect voltages which can cause CELs. its pretty common. try replacing the alternator and resetting the ECU. i bet all ur codes will go away

you might want to check the tension of the alt. belt. if its too loose then you wont get the proper voltage. in hence not getting the 12 volts to the vtec solenoid so that could be why your not hitting vtec sometimes

Re: (Shaun)
i was just about to say that
seriously. check the fuse first. i took out the alternator. bought a new one. put the new one in and still the same problem..
i then checked the fuse.. bamn. blown. i had all the same codes and symtoms. if your vss is hooked up, id be willing to almost gaurantee its the fuse.
