Forced air intake anyone?
i am planing on adding a k&n filter to my intake and then custom rerouting the intake to the front of the bumper for forced air. my car is an 89 civic dx hatch, will this make any noticeable throtle/hp response? any inteligent input would be appreciated..
if you're using the stock box and then routing a tube from the bumper to that box i would think it would work much like the comptech and mugen cold boxes. not a huge improvement, but maybe a bit better than stock. the filter will be a bigger improvement than the "cold air routing" would be so you can't really go wrong.

owyeah...pvc, good thinking mr.rocketscientist!
The C in pvc stands for CHLORINE! You know...that smelly stuff when pvc melts...
Might give you a nice performance boost those toxic fumes of melting PLASTIC tubes hooked up to your intake. Any idea how hot it gets so close to the engine under full load?
Additionaly... put your hand in front of your throttlebody, and hit the gas. Then notice the pressure you feel while the TB is sucking at your hand.
Then start to wonder how fast you need to be driveing to overcome that pressure for a "ram air" to work.
Then start to thing why turbo's were invented.
Have fun.

PVC is fine guys, we did this in my first Crx. cost me about 36 bucks I think including the high heat black paint. I just bought a long piece and some elbows. Also put the battery in the back for more clearance.
Hardest part was connecting it to the t/b
Also the PVC had a larger diameter, I wouldnt mind making another one

how could something possibly get that hot to melt if cold air is constantly being pushed through? and besides im not hooking anything up directly to the t/b. im keeping the same filter box, just removing that worthless stock intake piping it comes with and sending it to the bumper, no where near the engine... and i was actualy thinkin more like that cheep metal pipe at the depot... thanks for everyones comments, i appretiate it.
because the melting point of PVC is very very low, and the under hood temperature is relatively high. The bottom melting point does not mean that it's going to burst into flames, or deforming/drooping. It meand that the molecules are rearranging considerably, and that it starts to expand, and expell toxic fumes. Wich are getting into your freshly cleaned air.
i cut the tube that goes from the box to up by the hood pin in haLF and turned it pointed down till it was "cold air" intake, now it sits next the the down by the end of my radiator with a clear view of the ground. probly made no difference .. like the pvc and ****... but it took 2 minuts.
when i bought my car from my friend it had no intake tubes or filter... i guess my friend was thinkin he'd crank out a few extra horses...

^^ Ive also seen that on a few cars ith tight engine bays.
People just strap a KnN to the throttle body, Id assume the air wouldnt be as cold but would save some space and get some looks

slapping a filter on your throttle body is moronic. you're basically putting on open element filter on top of a hot block. under hood temperatures are way too high for the filter to sit RIGHT ON the manifold.
and there is no "cold air" running through the PVC of your shitbox intake unless it's winter. only mildly cooler air. it will never be colder than ambient temperature. and that is't enough to cool the outside of a PVC pipe down past melting temp when it's 90 degrees outside and you're sitting in traffic on the interstate.
if you aren't going to do it right, at least do it safe and smart.

Im pretty sure it was knowwhere close to the motor, also you know there is such a thing as header wrap that you could always used if you felt like being scared and Im sure many other ideas.
It was a lot better to me to pay 30 dollars for a larger diameter piping and a KnN filter and have the filter down in the bumper, rather than pay $150 for an AEM with slightly smaller diameter
Its something to do when you have something better to spend you money on then a 2 hp intake

I want to see the reciept from you buying the pvc/fittings/and tube adapters AND the K&N for 30 bucks. you can't buy a k&n conical filter for 30 bucks new. then you have to buy that aforementioned header wrap.
and by spending 10 dollars more you could get an ebay intake with filter and all fittings shipped to your door ready to bolt on.
DIY mods are great, but at least use common sense when choosing materials.

i like some of these responses, funny stuff..get some of that flexible heater or a/c ducting(i forgot what its called but it usually looks like shiny metal that is flexible) and create some ram air action..not expensive and if you do a good job with it then it may make a difference..good luck dood

I think he's alking about the ebay intake turbo.
Those PC fans mounted in some PVC that you put in your intake.
Maybe he's just lost in time and stuck in a different thread.
Kind of like Land of the Lost, but worse.
