Default Throwout Bearing

How hard is it to replace my throwout bearing. What tools are needed. If i buy the bearing and take it to the shop how much would that cost?

One of the easiest things to replace. Just buy a manual. Basic hand tools.

it requires dropping the tranny.
unless your throwout bearing is really fucked,
i'd say just leave it until you need a new clutch.

because, aside from unbolting/bolting on the new clutch,
the install process is the same.

basically you remove the transmission,
pull off the bearing, put on the new one.
also you should go buy some grease, clean all the stuff in there that needs to be,
and regrease.

But yeah, if you've dropped your tranny before,
have all the tools to do it, and know it wont be too much of a bitch.
then do it yourself....

buuuut, if you'd dropped a tranny youd know about the bearing already..

unless you have a new clutch and didn't do the bearing then.... i'd just do the clutch so you don't have to tear it apart again in 10k miles

Man, I wish I had found HT about 2 months earlier than I did cuz I wasted alot of money on labor to get my clutch/throwout bearing replaced.

so if my TOB is just squeeking i should be ok? I have a 95 civic with 60K and i think its the oringinal clutch/bearing. it drives well no chatter in the clutch. just the squeaking TOB until i lightly press the clutch pedal

so it squeaks when your cruising and such, until you hit the pedal?

well, if its not too gnarly of a squeak, then yeah just leave it.

basically the logical thing to do would be to wait till you need/want a new clutch to replace the bearing.

I have read stories about a REALLY messed up TOB tearing up the teeth on the pressure plate(because it sits up against the teeth).
but that would make you need a new clutch... sooo.. its the same as waiting till you need a new clutch anyways!

you can pull back that boot over the fork/slave cylinder on the transmission,
and spray some lube all up in there, might help a lil.
you'd want to find the right lube though.. hard to say what kind off hand.
DONT use wd40, i think it has lubing properties.. but mostly its good for clearing dust dirt and yes oil.. so it might even dry it out in the longrun...

also you'd want to look in there and aim for the bearing specifically, wont be ez..
but I dont think getting lube all over your clutch is very good
