Default HELP: Got hood popped by the cops!!

So I got pulled over and one cop sees my turbo timer and the other cop asks me to pop my hood right after that...cop gives me a state ref fix it ticket...few questions

1. Can they even tell me to pop my hood?

2. How can I get around this...someone mentioned that you can just pay it off...but the cop told me I had to get it reffed

3. Someone else told me I could just goto the courts and tell them that I dont have any money to fix my car right now and they'll waive the ref ticket till the next smog cycle

4. My last option would be to trade my h22turbo setup for a b16a2 and some cash...anyone interested?

Thanks guys!! Help a fellow H-T memeber out.

man i am soo glad that we dont have emissions around here. i asked 2 cops one day if my HID's were illegal... there response was " what are HID's and what do they do" lol our cops are dumb. but they like to pull over all the ricers with huge wings, body kits, and 50,000 neon lights on there cars.

Sell the setup and buy a K20a!

Also I thought your not allowed to have a motor in your car older than the actual car especially OBD-2 to OBD-1.

Good luck

No offense but you live in CA and about everyday someone comes in here for help, It's CA and you can't get by with **** so deal with it. You should already know the rules and regulations. What do you expect when you mod your cars, you know you will most likely get pulled over then you will get your hood popped, sent to the ref, probabally a ticket also, etc.. etc... and hundereds of dollars later that you could've spent elsewhere your paying it to them. I know I don't have hundereds of dollars laying around or the time to go through all that crap. Enough of my ranting... You basically have 3 choices... either put your car back to stock, sell the damn thing, or get a motor 99+ yes the laws suck over there and if you don't like them then I would suggest either getting your car registered out of state or moving is your only 2 options.

Not in cali, once they pop his hood for visual he fails. **** once they see his intercooler he fails.

I would just get the stock motor in there, move the mounts around back to stock and do it. Thatll be the cheapest thing to do.

****, sorry to say it man... but that right there will get u in trouble. sure, it may pass the actual smog, but the visual should technically fail. then again, you can take your car to the ref and hope that they dont know that the motor is a 92... but this is the ref c'mon now....

good luck

No. He has to run an engine the same year as the car or newer. I have a question about the visual though. If you have the greddy turbo kit with a C.A.R.B. # could you still pass?

I was sent to the ref a long time ago. I never went. The ticket went to collections and I paid it. I haven't heard anything about it. This was about 5 yrs ago. I'm not telling you to do this, just telling you what happened to me.

There are some intakes that are CARB legal, but I was told you will still fail the visual because it's emission related and they are not OEM. The reason I'm asking about the turbo is because you replace the exhaust manifold with the turbo manifold.

unless they went to a shady garage. I know that when I cant pass the emissions test we raise the car in the air and roll a good stock one under it that will pass. But then again thats where my brother works and if you know anyone with an inspection and emissions liscense with the ***** to do it their you go. The laws in cali suck man, I'm glad I don't have to deal with all of that ****. The lazy *** Pa state cops won't ever pop your hood. They look and see if it has not cat or not and if you have shell they send you on your way w/ a warning
