two way valve on gas tank?

hey guys one of the male plugs broke on this, how important is this valve.
number 1 in this diagram

hard to tell from that pic, but here is pic of my gas tank off the car. Let me know if you need anything off it and I'm sure we can work something out.

PS. dang guess it wasnt as great a pic as I thought. Well if you need the part off it. let me know.
