NEED HELP! (Timing belt/Headgasket Project) Wont start?!?!
Alright 1990 CRX Si D16A6
I replaced the headgasket - before I took the head off I marked several lines where the timing belt met the cam pulley and then I took it apart. When I put everything together the thing didnt start (and it all went back together good). I have fuel and spark. Only thing I can think is that somehow the belt must of jumped a tooth or two when it was sitting before I put the belt back on.
I read several right ups on how to fix it but there is no white mark on my crank pulley - all I can find is 3 lines close together but the #1 piston does not seem to be at TDC while those lines are lined up.
What should I try?

I took the crank pulley off and alined the marker on the pulley for the timing belt to the marker on the oil pump and then alined the cam pulley and then put the timing belt back on and put the rest of the stuff back together. and it did not start.
I did a compression test 160 - 150 - 120 - 125
Those numbers shouldnt be bad enough for it not to run.
I am getting spark, I seem to be getting fuel (doesnt start with starting fluid either)
Everything seems good except for the fact it doesnt run - only guess is that I am either not getting spark at the right time or the compression is not there at the right time.
What do you guys think I should do or check?

Those compression numbers are pretty bad,but it should still start. The only thing i can think it could be is cam timing. You say you have spark anf fuel. Was it running before the timing belt/headgasket were done?Did you have the head resurfaced and remove ALL of the old gasket material from the block? Also, are you sure you plugged everything in correct when installing the head(injector plugs) Also, are you sure you have the firing order on the distributor and the cylinders right?
yes it was running before the headgasket, all the old gaske was removed and if it was not I do not think it would of been able to hold that compression. but it was very clean but I did not have it machined. Everything is pluged in - the only things I unpluged was the Dizzy and coolent sensors because I left the IM still on the car and it is sparking so the Dizzy is hooked up.
The fireing order is correct as I never took the wires off the dizzy but I also verified them several times.
Only thing I can think is the Cam timing but I went over it so many times and looked at just about ever write up on the net and as long as I am interpiting them correctly it should be timed right unless maybe it is off a tooth (if say the cam sprocket is a hair off)
What should I do?

how do I do this? I tried setting the pointer to the middle of the 3 marks and putting the cam sprocket facing up with the lines parellel with the valve cover and it didnt work, So I pulley the crank pulley off and set the pointer on the oil pump to the mark on the timing belt pulley and then put the cam pulley to Up with the lines parellel with the valve cover and it still didnt work... What am I doing wrong here?
there is no white mark on my crank pulley - i was told where the white mark should be would be the middle of the 3 lines. Yeah I tried everything from pumping it to using starting fluid it aint starting like that
Yes I readjusted the valve clearence but I never removed the rocker arms.

for a good list of ideas check out this thread that i created in search of help for my car problems right now

I replaced my waterpump and now can't get it started so we're kinda in the same position where-as the timing belt is our common factor.

If you really want to know TDC at the crank, take out your #1 spark plug ,get a long screw driver, put in in the spark plug hole, then hand crank it til the screwdriver goes all the way to its highest. Thats TDC.

very effective method.
very effective method.
As everyone else already mentioned, the 3 marks close to each other are for IGNITION timing. The TDC mark is about an inch or so away from those 3 marks. Line that up with the pointer. Put the cam gear to tdc (on d16a6's, there's a line in the rear cam cover that line up with a line on the cam gear, it doesn't go straight up and down.) And also don't forget to make sure the distributor is on correctly, and not 180 degrees off (many people have done it)
