So I'm slowing down on the off ramp and my car starts fishtailing.

There is a brake light on, like the one thats on, when you have your emergency brake up. My brake pedal also feels a bit squishy than normal.

Anyone know whats up with the car before I drop it off at my mechanics?

 

The brake light can also come on if you have low fluid levels in the brake master cylinder.

That coupled with your description of the pedal as feeling "squishy" leads me to believe you might have a leaking master cylinder.

Tough to say without seeing the car though...

 

yup i gotta agree with tom on this one. or you just may have not noticed that ur fluid level has went down.

 

do you have new brakes if so there might be airin the lines if they werent bled right

 

First things first. Check the fluid in the master cylinder. This problem happened to me and I was able to fix it by adding more break fluid. Now, I am not sure where it went. I sold the car and di dnot bother to inspect the break lines and the master cylinder.

I'd look at your lines and make sure that the master cylinder is okay. It is pretty easy to replace. Brake lines can be tricky.

 

Brake light = e brake engaged or low fluid for sure... Squishy pedal = bad master cylinder or air in lines... My friend just totalled his truck cause the mc went out he rear ended some lady going 40mph. Don't lag on getting it taken care of. If it's the mc, they are cheap and easy as hell to replace. Cost me about 30-40 bucks and took about a half hour to remove the old one and install new one. When it comes to my brakes, nobody touches them but me!

 

I never got a light when I sprung a leak in my master cylinder. It drained all the way to empty. Is there any way to check this out? I don't want it happening again. Yes my bulb is good and no I'm not throwing any codes.

 

Well I dropped it off at my mechanic this morning, so when I'm off work it;ll be all fixed.

I just wanted to know if I could just add some more brake fluid or something, but I'm thinking that the master cylinder is messed. Working all the time=no working on my car.

Does your brake light come on when you turn your key? Check the connection on the m/c reservoir lid (that's where the sensor is) and make sure that it is secure on both ends of the wire. If you're losing fluid you that's no good. If you know the leak is the m/c don't mess around just filling it up just replace it IMO... Where exactly was it leaking from the m/c? Do you check your fluids often? I check my fluids @ least once a week if I notice anything unusual I start narrowing down what the issue is... The most important thing your car does is stop, don't risk not being able to!

$120 for a new MC and rear caliper
$120 for labor

My brakes are back to normal, I guess.

Why is it that when I press my brake pedal down it "grabs" about half way.
When I drive everyone elses' cars, it "grabs" about 25% in.

For example, I can't heel-toe in other peoples cars, but I can in mine.

Also when I continue to apply pressure on the pedal it goes ALL the way down to the floor.

I just wanted to know if this was normal.

My mechanic suggested that I replace my pads and rotors in 3 or so months.

 

Are you saying you just payed $240 and your pedal still goes all the way to the floor?

No, I'm wondering if my brakes are supposed to be as squishy as I have explained them to be in my previous post.

 

Pedal pressure will obviously vary from car to car based on how it's been maintained, overall condition of parts and other circumstances... but in your situation I would say that sounds a little more drastic than I would consider normal. Now that you got it back how is it doing?
