Help with 5th gear problem after tranny rebuild please
I've pulled the tranny back out and opened it back up, and so far I can kind of tell what seems to be the problem. The two pins that come off of the 3rd/4th gear shift fork and the 5th and reverse gear shift fork seem to be preventing it from going into 5th. The two pins, which go into the reverse shift holder, seem to bind sometimes. It might be hard to describe without pictures. The shift holder seems to be 3 plates pieced together, and the back one moves. Well, when it won't shift into 5th, I can move this back plate, closest to the gear shafts, and it will go in then. Also, I can slightly move the gears along the mainshaft, (up or down), and depending on how far down or up the entire assembly is, it will continuously go in without me moving the plate on the shift holder. At this point, I can put the case back on, and then it won't shift into fifth anymore. It's as if the gears are moving along the mainshaft and locking out 5th gear.
Sorry for the long explanation, hopefully it makes some type of sense. I'll try and make any clarification necessary.
Anyone have any clues what I can do now? TIA.

I messed around with the tranny today again, pulled it apart, it shifted fine, put it back together, and it still seems to shift ok. I guess the only way to test it is to put it in.... another long afternoon
